One part of our mission is to “place special emphasis on the needs of children and youth, recognizing that they are the church TODAY and in the future.” Currently, we have some 80 children and youth as a part of our church. They light up our lives and we are committed to providing ministries that engage and inspire them. Check out the opportunities below!
Sunday School
Sunday School for all ages is offered each Sunday at 9:00am. Classes: Nursery, Pre-school, Grades 1-3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-12, Adult
Worship & Wonder Children’s Church
Each Sunday after the Kid’s Circle in worship, children ages 3 through 3rd grade, are invited to participate in Children's Church. Ages 3 thru Kindergarten will use the Worship & Wonder curriculum which is a Montessory influenced program where children have opportunity to hear Bible stories and form responses and creatve expressions to those stories out of their own life experience. Grade 1-3 will enjoy a new currriculum to South Summit called "Show Me," weekly devotions that include science tricks and illusions, each illustrating an important message from the Bible.
Youth Choir (Grades 6-12)
Calling all youth from 6th through 12th grade! The Messengers, our youth choir, rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 6:45pm to 7:30pm in the sanctuary. They sing in at least one worship service each month. We’re also going to have a lot of fun!!!
Junior Youth Fellowship (JYF – Grades 3-5)
JYF is a place for 3rd-5th graders to gather once a month for fun, fellowship, Christian growth, and service. Games, devotions, field trips, mission events, and group building activities help this active age group make good friends and grow in Christian community. Stay tuned for the next JYF gathering!
Y-Life! (Grades 6-8)
Y-Life is a place to have great fun and make great friends. Attentive to the needs of middle school youth, Y-Life is interactive, relational, high-energy, and inclusive. Through group building, Bible study, devotions, worship, fun excursions, and service events, the youth of Y-Life receive encouragement to grow in faith and establish Christian friendships that they can carry with them through high school and beyond. Y-Life meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 pm at the church.
CYF (Grades 9-12)
CYF builds on and extends the Y-Life experience. Group building, Bible study, devotions, worship, fun excursions, and mission projects occur in the context of recognizing that high school youth are beginning and completing a wonderful leg in life’s journey. The pressures and challenges for high school youth today are many and CYF empowers youth to draw deeply from their faith as they face current and future challenges. CYF meets weekly on Sundays immediately following worship until 1:00 pm.
Summer Church Camp
At beautiful Tall Oaks Camp and Conference Center, just 45 minutes from Lee’s Summit outside Desoto, KS, children and youth ages 5-18, have the opportunity to attend summer church camp. South Summit Christian Church pays half the fee for children and youth who are a part of our church to attend camp. Camp schedules for Summer 2010 are available on the website, as well as online registration. Please bring your registration form, health form and payment to church by Sunday, April 18.
During the summer of 2009, South Summit was "represented" at Tall oaks by 41 of our children and youth who attended camp! Steve Westbrook and Sara Wilcox also attended as Camp Directors, along with several other adult and youth who helped as counselors. Fun was had by all!
Vacation Bible School
VBS 2009 was a success this summer at SSCC with the Studio GO! Game Show, a place where kids experienced real teamwork, real service and real fun! Each day at Studio GO!, kids met someone from the Bible who decided to team up with God and GO for it! It was a great opportunity to see how God works in the lives of everyone who trusts Him. It was a fun week filled with great Bible and service stories, amazing crafts, fun games, super songs and delicious snacks.
The theme this year is "Galactic Blast" and will run from June 21-25. Kids will sing "out of this world" music, do cosmic crafts, science projects and much more! Click on the link below for the VBS Registration Form, fill it out and drop it by the church or send it by mail to SSCC at 1121 SW Hook Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64082. Please contact Beth Nutter for more information or if you are interested in helping with this fun week!
