WHO IS SOUTH SUMMIT
REV. JILL SULLINS- SENIOR MINISTER
Rev. Jill Sullins joined South Summit Christian Church on December 1, 2013 with her daughter, Maddie. Rev. Jill previously served congregations in San Marcos, Texas, Independence, Missouri, Fort Worth, Texas and Grand Prairie, Texas. She has been a senior minister for over 14 years in the Disciples of Christ tradition. She earned her bachelors’ degree in Religious Studies and a minor in music at Texas Christian University and her Master of Divinity degree at Brite Divinity School.
Jill is a born and raised Disciple of Christ having been blessed, baptized, ordained, and married at First Christian Church in Independence, Missouri; a historic congregation created in 1835 in partnership with Alexander Campbell, one of the founders of the DOC tradition.
Rev. Jill’s passion for ministry began when she was 17 years old through her youth group, mission trips, and attending camp at Tall Oaks. She has served in ministry in the Greater Kansas City Region as a camp counselor, director, sponsor of the CYF regional cabinet, camp and conference ministry, regional executive committee, and CWF. She also served with the Independence Ministerial Alliance and while in San Marcos, TX she served as a community leader with San Marcos Leadership. She currently serves as the vice president for the Lee's Summit Ministerial Alliance.
Jill’s real passion for ministry came from a spark for social justice and blossomed into a desire to lead churches into a greater understanding of their place within the world and how the power of God can use our church communities to instill change, create wholeness, and further Christ’s Kingdom of peace in the world. She believes that the flaws of humanity are the key to how God uses humanity to love deeper and stronger with more grace.
Jill finds God in lots of everyday things… the vastness of space, the hug of a friend, the right words or even the wrong ones at the right time, the budding flower in spring, the vigor of a dog tugging on a stick, and in pretty much every person on earth. She spends her free time playing volleyball, punching numbers on a remote control, conquering the world of tutu making and other nonsense crafts, cooking, and of course being a mom and a wife.
